A Few Funny Jokes But Not Worth the Money

The good news is that Adam Roos's collection of One Liner Jokes is the funniest of his books that I've read. The bad news is that most of the jokes still aren't funny and the book isn't worth anywhere near three dollars.
The collection consists of a little over 100 short jokes, spread out one per screen to make it appear as if the book contains more material than it does. Most of them are either questions and answer jokes ("What do you call..." or "What's the difference between ..." jokes) or one line aphorisms, many of which sound like something you would read on a fortune cookie. There are puns, downright silly jokes, some jokes you probably heard in the third grade, and a few crudely insensitive jokes. A few of them are quite clever ("Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it"), and I laughed out loud at about a half dozen of them. However, the majority of the jokes miss the mark, and reading one screen after another that contains a one-sentence bad joke becomes a bit depressing. If I had to guess, I'd say that about 1/3 of the jokes were worthwhile reading.
While that figure sounds very low, from my experience with Amazon humor jokes, that's actually a pretty good ratio. And, since humor is subjective, it's likely some people will find a good number of these more funny than I did. I received this book (and several other of Roos's joke books) for free as a promotion, and were I rating it as a free book, I would probably give it three stars ... a mild recommendation.
However, the book normally sells for $3, and at that price, there simply isn't enough good material for the money. The book has little repeat value unless you have a really bad memory, and I just don't think it's worth paying three dollars for a half dozen genuinely funny jokes and 30 or so mildly amusing ones. I also think it's a bit deceptive to list this book as 119 pages. It's true, there are that many screens, but most of them have one or two sentences on them, some of them ten words or less than material. Printed in a normal manner, even allowing for generous spacing, would result in a book of about 30 pages.
To give Roos credit, the material here is funnier, less offensive, less repetitive, and more wide ranging than his other collections that I've read. If I had to buy one of his books, this would be the one. But even with that, it's still intermittently and mildly amusing at best. I just don't see three dollars of value here, when you can get more and funnier material at a lower price from a number of other Amazon authors.
