About the Author
Born and brought up in Wales, Jennie Jones loved anything with a romantic element from an early age. At eighteen, she went to drama school in London then spent a number of years performing in British theatres, becoming someone else two hours, eight performances a week. Jennie wrote her first romance story at the age of twenty five whilst 'resting' (a theatrical term for 'out of work'). She wrote a western! But nobody wanted it. Before she got discouraged a musical theatre job came up and Jennie put writing to one side. She now lives in Western Australia, a five minute walk to the beach that she loves to look at but hardly ever goes to - too much sand. Jennie returned to writing four years ago. She says writing keeps her artistic nature dancing and her imagination bubbling. Like acting, she can't envisage a day when it will ever get boring.

Lovely country, lovely characters

I've been waiting for this author's debut novel for a long time - not very patiently I might add. I love the cover. I think the cover perfectly sums up the lead character, Sammy. A lady ready with a laugh, and a warm and generous soul. Burra Burra Lane was worth the wait. I particularly liked the opening scenes and chapters. I love how Sammy gets introduced to Ethan (local hunky vet and carpenter) in the small town of Swallow's Fall. (I love how Swallow's Fall gets its name too).
There is lots of detail in this book, which appeals to me. I like detail in characters, in scenes and in emotions - I like to be drawn into the books I read - and so for me, The House on Burra Burra Lane was spot on.

I had the opportunity of reading The House on Burra Burra Lane by Jennie Jones and I loved every word. This books has it all, a sexy vet, beautiful scenery, cute children, and a three hundred pound pig. Let me tell you a little about this wonderful story.
Samantha Walker (Sammy to her friends) is a artist with a mother who has minuplated and belitted her all of her life. Never showing her love and forcing her to do her bidding until Sammy doesn't even know who she is any more. Running away from her controlling mother and an abusive ex-boyfriend she finds her self in Swallow's Fall (I died laughing when I found out how the town got its name) population 86. When she takes her beloved cat Duke to see the town vet, she never anticipated tripping over a three hundred pound pig name Ruby and falling into the arms of the sexy town vet Ethan Granger.
Ethan has lived in Swallow's Fall for all of his life. Raised in a home with an abusive father, and then losing his wife and brother to an accident that he blames himself for, he keeps his distance from everyone and will not risk getting to close to anyone for fear of turning into what his father was. But he just can't seem to fight the need to help and protect Sammy.
There is an instant attraction between these two, but they insist on just being friends. They think that things will be better that way, until they can't fight it any longer. They both have secrets that neither is willing to share with the other. But in a town like Swallow's Fall nothing can be hidden forever.
I loved Sammy's character. She marches to the beat of her own drum, not willing to allow anyone or anything control her. She has had enough of that in her life. She is strong, and intellegent, caring and helpful. I loved Ethan. He has a quiet strenght that just puts everyone at ease. The secret that is reveiled twords the end of the book threw me for a loop in a good way.
I would recommend this book to all my friends and I will look for more stories by this author.

I love Swallow's Fall!

Sammy needs a fresh start and therefore she moves to Swallow's Fall. She's purchased a house there that needs a lot of work, but she's determined to love and cherish it and to make it a wonderful place to live. While she's only been there shortly she meets vet and carpenter Ethan. He's the one she needs for help with her home. They come to an agreement, something that will suit them both, but isn't as easy for Ethan as it may seem. Of course this means spending more time together. They instantly have a connection, but both Sammy and Ethan also have a past...
The House on Burra Burra Lane is such a wonderful romantic story. The whole town wonders if Sammy is going to stay or if she will leave. Sammy doesn't want to go back to the city, not at all. She has a creative profession and she can work from home. I loved that about her character and enjoyed reading about her designs. She's cheerful and determined, but she's also been through a lot and that makes her uncertain of what the future will bring. Her past might eventually catch up with her, so Sammy is never completely at ease. Ethan is a great guy, but he has so many insecurities because of childhood memories and because of a certain family history. Both of them deserve some happiness, but it isn't easy for them to open up to someone.
I loved the unusual chemistry between the main characters. Jennie Jones has written a great romantic story, one that has a nice twist. It's different in a good way. I liked the way Ethan and Sammy communicate and I kept being curious to see how things would develop. I also loved the setting. I'm a big fan of small town romance and I instantly fell in love with Swallow's Fall. The gossip and bets are fabulous and I immediately liked the inhabitants. I'm planning to read another Swallow's Fall book very soon. I'm intrigued and can't wait to learn more about this amazing town.
