Another sweet and gentle love story

Tarah is a teacher who has been in love with a neighbor boy since they were children... long before he left town to attend school to become a minister. When he returns from seminary and starts pastoring the local church, Tarah is less than pleased to discover that she is still in love with him because it seems as if all of his time is taken up with Louisa, her childhood rival.
The overly aggressive Louisa keeps pushing herself on Anthony and takes every opportunity to criticize Tarah and make snide comments about how she (Louisa) is going to marry Anthony. The only problem is that Anthony doesn't seem to know that she is going to marry him.
As in many other books, I am somewhat disgusted by the fact that Anthony does not seem to have the intestinal fortitude to tell Louisa straight up that he is not interested in her. I think it would have been kinder for him to let her know right up front that there is no way they would ever be a couple rather than allow her to browbeat him into doing things he doesn't really want to do, like attending various functions with her. Because he is not straightforward with her, she thinks that he has feelings for her when he really does not. I wondered how hard it would have been for him to tell her, "No, I'm sorry but I can't go to the picnic (or wherever) with you."
That issue aside, I loved this book and my primary complaint is that it was too short. I read it in a couple of hours...long before I was ready to say goodbye to the characters. I fell in love with the neglected and abused little children, Laney and Ben and it was with a great deal of pleasure that I ordered the next book that is about Laney. There are 4 books in this series but each is a standalone book and is about a different character. This is my idea of what a series should be. I highly recommend this book, and indeed any book in this series, to anyone who wants a "gentle" love story.

I really liked this book very much!! It may be short but it is a great story. I loved the way it all came together despite the obstacles. I would recommend it highly.

Lessons

I liked the author's lessons learned from life's twists and turns. We all have to learn them and this book just reminds me of the continued lessons always there throughout life. Learn them well so you don't have to repeat the same lessons over again.
I didn't care for how spineless the Preacher was but understand why the author showed that.
Let your yes be yes and your no mean no, helps avoid misunderstandings and gives other's less room for intimidation.
HEA achieved when characters put All in God's hands.
Excellent lessons learn from the book, not just passively read.
