A fresh, well-written, fascinating look at Orson Welles, early radio and the "War of the Worlds" broadcast

As a fan of Orson Welles, old time radio shows and retro pop culture history, I was hoping this book would be good - and I was not disappointed. In fact, it turned out to be one of the best-researched, best-written and most interesting history books I've read in a long time. It's far more than a rehash of commonly-known lore about the famous/infamous "War of the Worlds" broadcast. Author David Acord did an amazing amount of research and that delved into original documents, news stories, government files, personal accounts and academic studies. He provides fascinating biographical information about Orson Welles and key facts about all of the other people mentioned, the radio industry and the era. He also connects the dots to trends in modern media. Overall, he provides a truly fresh perspective on Welles and his acting colleagues, early radio shows and the "War of the World" broadcast.
